Tennis Legend Steps onto the Pickleball Court and Wins...One Match
Andre Agassi, the iconic 8-time Grand Slam tennis champion, made his highly anticipated professional pickleball debut at the 2025 US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida. On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, just a day after turning 55, he teamed up with the top-ranked female player in the world, 18-year-old Anna Leigh Waters, in the mixed pro division.
In their opening match, Agassi and Waters faced the younger duo of 13-year-old Stevie Petropouleas and 16-year-old Tristan Dussault. After a back-and-forth battle, the legendary tennis star and his young partner emerged victorious with a score of 11-8, 9-11, 11-7.
Agassi himself expressed his excitement and perhaps a bit of nervousness about his debut, stating, "Coming out here with Anna Leigh, I was more nervous than a gypsy with a mortgage... This is a metaphor for life: choose your partners well."
While their run ended in the second round, Agassi's entry into professional pickleball has already generated significant buzz and excitement for the sport. It's a major moment, showing the growing appeal and crossover potential between tennis and pickleball!
