Pickleball Slam is BACK!
Fireworks Happened!
NEWS If you missed the fireworks on the court on April 15, 2026, here is everything you need to know about one of the sport’s biggest—and most controversial—spectacles.
While the “Battle of the Sexes” theme promised a clash of generations and styles, it ended with a masterclass in psychological warfare.
The Pickleball Slam 4: Quick Guide
* Who: Tennis legends Andre Agassi and James Blake faced off against the world’s #1 pickleball player Anna Leigh Waters and tennis-turned-pickleball pro Genie Bouchard.
* What: A high-stakes exhibition event featuring a mix of singles and doubles matches, culminating in a “winner-take-all” battle for a $1 million prize.
* When: Wednesday night, April 15, 2026.
* Where: Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida—a venue that has become the “home court” for the Slam series.
* Why: To showcase the growth of pickleball by pitting retired tennis icons against the sport’s modern-day stars. It’s essentially the “Super Bowl of exhibitions” for the pickleball world.
The Recap: Strategy Over Stardom
The night delivered a classic “strategy over stardom” upset that left the world’s top-ranked player, Anna Leigh Waters (ALW), visibly frustrated.
While the matches started as expected—with ALW handling James Blake in singles and Andre Agassi showing vintage form to take down Genie Bouchard—the script flipped entirely during the $1 million doubles finale.
Despite ALW being the undisputed best player on the court, Agassi and Blake executed a ruthless tactical game plan: the “freeze out.” By relentlessly targeting Bouchard and avoiding ALW at all costs, the veterans neutralized Waters’ dominance.
Even after ALW called the strategy “ridiculous” during a timeout, the men held their nerve, securing the match (26-23, 21-15) and proving that in pickleball, sometimes the best offense is simply not playing to the best player.
